Sandbox
The PAX sandbox is a fully functional trading environment for developing and testing your integration. It runs the real matching engine with test funds so you can place orders, receive fills, and stream market data without risking real assets.

Section titled “Quick start”Sign up at app-sandbox.pax.markets. Your account is instantly approved with no email verification or KYC. Create an API key in Settings. Sandbox keys start with pax_test_. Start trading against https://api-sandbox.pax.markets.

API key prefixes
Section titled “API key prefixes”| Environment | Prefix | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Sandbox | pax_test_ |
pax_test_a1b2c3d4e5f6a1b2c3d4e5f6 |

Sandbox keys (pax_test_) cannot authenticate against production. Generate a new keypair for production instead of reusing your sandbox one: signatures do not cover the host or the key ID, so with a shared keypair a sandbox request could be replayed against production.
Switching to production
Section titled “Switching to production”Change the base URL from api-sandbox.pax.markets to api.pax.markets and use a pax_live_ API key made from a new keypair. The request format, authentication, and all endpoints are identical.
