Prices and ticks
Section titled “Prices and ticks”Prices are expressed in ticks, the smallest price increment for a market. Each market defines its tick_size in quote asset native units. See Markets.
To convert a dollar price to ticks:
ticks = (price_in_dollars * quote_native_units) / tick_sizeFor example, BTC-USDC has a tick_size of 1,000,000 (i.e. $1.00 per tick). A limit order at $50,000:
ticks = (50,000 * 1,000,000) / 1,000,000 = 50,000Quantities and step sizes
Section titled “Quantities and step sizes”Quantities are in base asset native units and must be multiples of the market’s qty_step_size.
| Asset | Native unit | Units per 1 token |
|---|---|---|
| BTC | satoshi | 100,000,000 |
| ETH | gwei | 1,000,000,000 |
| SOL | lamport | 1,000,000,000 |
| USDC | micro-USDC | 1,000,000 |
For example, to place an order for 0.001 BTC:
qty = 0.001 * 100,000,000 = 100,000Both ticks and qty are transmitted as integers (or integer strings) in JSON. Large numeric fields accept either format: "qty": "100000" or "qty": 100000.
